Sony Ericsson has announced the MBW-200, the female version of its MBW-150 Bluetooth watches. Styled specifically for ladies, the MBW-200 is available in three distinct styles: Sparkling Allure, Contemporary Elegance and Evening Classic.
The Sparkling Allure style features a rose gold rim with crystal décor stones and rose gold hands with white fill on the face. The strap is white crocodile leather with a rose gold clasp. The Contemporary Elegance edition features a stainless steel band with a white face, while the Evening Classic sports a black leather band with a black face, perfect for any situation.
The Sony Ericsson MBW-200 wristwatches feature a small monochrome OLED display and connect to your cell phone via Bluetooth. The watch is then able to display your incoming caller ID, as well as alert you to new text messages, emails, and even calendar alarms. A row of dedicated music playback keys also allow the watch to function as a remote control for your music-centric cell phone.

The MBW-200 is designed to only work with Sony Ericsson cell phones, though 3rd parties have developed applications that allow the watches to interface with Windows Mobile and Symbian-powered smartphones, as well. Pricing information for the Sony Ericsson MBW-200 was not released, though availability is planned for Q4 2008.

Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia launch date confirmed

According to Dial-a-Phone the Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia will launch at the end of the month.
The price is yet to be confirmed but we expect it will be free with perhaps a £45 per month contract and around the £100 mark with lower value contracts. The X1 Xperia is a high end business phone with 3.15 megapixel camera, 3 inch touch screen.
Other features include a lightweight 45 gram stainless steel casing, wifi and dvd quality video. Being a business phone the Xperia has WiFi and push email as well as blogging software and a host of other features.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic hits it off

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is no longer lurking behind corners as the curtains lifted today in London and Singapore on the first S60 full-touch device by Nokia. While most of the specs were given away well in advance, it's exciting to take a closer look at the touch OS. We had a taste of it back at the WMC in Barcelona and it tasted sweet.

Two homescreen add-ons do sound intriguing. With the Media Bar music, media and online content are a fingertip away. The Contacts Bar provide enhanced touch-based handling of contacts, including setting favorites, logging calls, texts and recent communication.
The touch-optimized handset comes complete with a stylus too, and for all who are about to frown at that, there's a plectrum-shaped alternative. The other controls are kept to the bare minimum. Below the massive touchscreen there's three-key combo along the lines of Pixon and Renoir, to name a few recent headliners. The home key (so long, Symbian key) is flanked by the Call and End knobs.

For those who migh have missed the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic leaks, the first S60 touchscreen handset packs a 3.2" screen of the exciting widescreen resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. A 3.2 megapixel autofocus shooter and VGA video at 30 fps are the imaging assets. There's quad-band GSM support and 3G with HSDPA. Some of the other extras include: GPS, 3.5mm standard audio jack, TV-out and a microSD card slot. An ambitious music offering, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will come with 8GB microSD card in the retail package and stereo surround speakers.
The debut of the Comes With Music service shared the spotlight with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Comes With Music allows unlimited track downloads from the Nokia Music Store catalog for a period of one year and will be available across a number of handsets, including Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia 5310 XpressMusic. UK will be the first market to for Comes With Music, sales of enabled devices expected to start on October 16.
Comes-With-Music enabled Nokia 5800 XpressMusic units will surface at the beginning of next year. Otherwise Nokia 5800 XpressMusic worldwide availability is planned for this quarter of 2008 at an estimated retail price of 279 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

Samsung M8800 Pixon finally makes it in its full 8MP shine & BlackBerry Storm 9500 confirmed

The second 8 megapixel full touchscreen device on the market - Samsung M8800 Pixon finally saw its official announcement. After several reviews of the handset appeared yesterday, today Samsung finally held an event to publicly unveil it. We still don't have the full official specs list however, we have a pretty good idea what the Samsung Pixon is all about.
Samsung M8800 Pixon is the second 8 megapixel handset to be released by Samsung after the Samsung i8510 INNOV8. The Samsung INNOV8 is already available on some markets and the Samsung Pixon will follow soon with a release date set in early October.
Sporting quad-band GSM support and tri-band 3G with HSDPA the Samsung Pixon is fully capable of global roaming. It stands at 107.9 x 54.6 x 13.8mm and weighs mere 109 grams. Featuring a 3.2-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels the Samsung M8800 Pixon comes as a direct rival of LG KC910 Renoir.
Some of the other highlights of the Samsung M8800 Pixon include a GPS receiver, built-in accelerometer, FM radio with RDS and microSD memory card slot. In addition to taking exiting 8 megapixel photos its camera is capable of recording WVGA(740 x 480 pixels) videos at 30fps, which is the best that we know of among mobile phones. The Pixon will even have DivX playback and SRS (surround sound system) Virtual 5.1 Ch.

The highly anticipated BlackBerry Storm 9500 today made its first official appearance, popping up on German Vodafone web site. Images and specs of the first touchscreen RIM-manufactured device have been floating around the net for what seems like ages but it hasn’t yet been officially announced. If all the rumored features are confirmed when the device actually sees daylight then the Apple Iphone 3G might be up for quite a challenge.
The specifications of the BlackBerry Storm 9500 that are already known include a 3.3” touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. The tri-band 3G with HSDPA and the quad-band GSM support make it capable of global roaming. The Storm 9500 is running on a 624 MHz CPU and has 192 MB of RAM and utilizes a new version of the BlackBerry OS, optimized for touchscreen input.
Some of the other extras include a built-in GPS (with A-GPS functionality), microSD card slot with support for up to 8GB cards and a 3.5mm standard audio jack. The lengthy specs sheet comes in the reasonable 112.5 x 62.2 x 13.9 mm package which makes it sound as quite an offer. The Blackberry Bold should also have Wi-Fi connectivity, but as of now it's not 100%.

It's finally here - the iPhone 3G. No, we mean that literally. It's finally at our office and boy, are we excited! GPS, HSDPA purring under the new iPhone hood with a hefty number of software enhancements.
But all them software goodies are available for the first-gen iPhone too - so is it worth the fuss? It may as well be, but we never know before we take it out for a spin.

SanDisk introduces 16 GB microSD and M2 memory cards

If you were just running out of space on your memory card - here come some good news for you. SanDisk is going to start shipping 16GB microSD and M2 memory cards as early as next month.
The 16GB of capacity will give the M2 and microSDHC-compatible phones a chance to match the iPhone and the likes' memory capacity. While there is no official information yet which phone models will be compatible with the new standard we can bet any handset supporting the 8GB cards will manage to handle that too. And best of all, the availability of the new 16GB cards will most probably make the 8GB models more affordable.
The 16GB microSD cards are expected to hit the shelves at a price of 70 euro (100 US dollars), while the 16GB M2 cards will sell for about 90 euro (130 US dollars).

GSM (Global System for Mobile communications: originally from Groupe Spécial Mobile) is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. Its promoter, the GSM Association, estimates that 82% of the global mobile market uses the standard.[1] GSM is used by over 3 billion people across more than 212 countries and territories.Its ubiquity makes international roaming very common between mobile phone operators, enabling subscribers to use their phones in many parts of the world. GSM differs from its predecessors in that both signalling and speech channels are digital, and thus is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system. This has also meant that data communication was easy to build into the system.

3G
3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, superseding 2.5G, and preceding 4G. It is based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) family of standards under the International Mobile Telecommunications-2000, IMT-2000
3G networks enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. Services include wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile environment. Additional features also include HSPA(High Speed Packet Access) data transmission capabilities able to deliver speeds up to 14.4Mbit/s on the downlink and 5.8Mbit/s on the uplink.

GPRS
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet oriented Mobile Data Service available to users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and IS-136 mobile phones. It provides data rates from 56 up to 114 kbit/s.
GPRS can be used for services such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) access, Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), and for Internet communication services such as email and World Wide Web access. GPRS data transfer is typically charged per megabyte of traffic transferred, while data communication via traditional circuit switching is billed per minute of connection time, independent of whether the user actually is using the capacity or is in an idle state. GPRS is a best-effort packet switched service, as opposed to circuit switching, where a certain Quality of Service (QoS) is guaranteed during the connection for non-mobile users.

EDGE
Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution (EDGE), Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS), or IMT Single Carrier (IMT-SC) is a backwards-compatible digital mobile phone technology that allows improved data transmission rates, as an extension on top of standard GSM. EDGE can be considered a 3G radio technology and is part of ITU's 3G definition but is most frequently referred to as 2.75G. EDGE was deployed on GSM networks beginning in 2003— initially by Cingular (now AT&T) in the United States.
EDGE is standardized by 3GPP as part of the GSM family, EDGE is an upgrade that provides a potential three-fold increase in capacity of GSM/GPRS networks. The specification achieves higher data-rates by switching to more sophisticated methods of coding, within existing GSM timeslots. Introducing 8PSK encoding, EDGE is capable of delivering higher bit-rates per radio channel in good conditions

3GP
3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some 2G and 4G phones.
3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) container format, designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones. It stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC or HE-AAC. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate. There are two different standards for this format:
3GPP (for GSM-based Phones, may have filename extension .3gp)
3GPP2 (for CDMA-based Phones, may have filename extension .3g2)

The number of cell phone subscribers' continued to improve in April 08 with overall subscribers growing by 3.0 per cent to 85.0 million as compared to 2.8 per cent in March 08. Net additions for April 08 improved to 2.5 million, a rise of 13.5 per cent over the previous month's 2.2 million.
